Ringkasan Sejarah Arsitektur Abad ke-20 oleh Winny Maas

Berikut ini adalah sebuah cuplikan pendek dari Winny Maas (MVRDV). Cuplikan ini dikutip dari buku “KM 3; Excursions on Capacities” (terbit tahun 2004), sebuah buku oleh MVRDV. Walaupun amat singkat, Maas telah merangkum perkembangan arsitektur pada abad ke-20. Berikut adalah kutipan pernyataannya.

HISTORY. We can take note of a compressed history related to this approach from the studies on mass production in the 1920s and 1930s to the idealistic excursions and sketches in the 1960s to the refocus on form theory in deconstructivist architecture during the 1980s to excursions in the virtual domain of merely computer-based form-finding in the 1990s to finally directionless urban analyses presented as “research” in the 2000s.

All have been a series of methods to understand the world but not to construct the world.
